When it was founded, PKK determined its basic ideology as Marxism/Leninism and described its aims-methods-strategies etc. within this frame. The main goal of terrorist organization is to establish a socialism-based ‘unified independent Kurdistan’, covering the territories from four countries (Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey) where Kurds live. As its fundamental strategy, PKK has adopted the “Long Term Public War” to realize its goals.
Ideology of the terrorist organization has evolved over time, since early 1990s, with fall of the Soviet Union, when PKK started to exploit religious expressions and context, particularly to provide recruitment and public support in the region. Currently, PKK maintains its separatist ideology with a pragmatic approach while it uses Marxist/Leninist ideology along with the exploitation of religion.
